SAP to Azure Migration Amidst COVID-19
Business Challenge:
Continuing its digital transformation journey, this leading IT services provider wanted to move its internal SAP instances to the cloud, which included 36 Linux and 20 Windows server instances. An interruption-free migration was required to ensure business continuity since 5,000+ users would be affected. One final challenge also faced the team: the global lockdown due to COVID-19 outbreak.
Solution:
After evaluating different cloud providers, the client chose Microsoft Azure for three main reasons: cost advantages, enhanced speed and access for its users, and the strategic advantage from their relationship with Microsoft. The client also selected MSRcosmos to assist with the migration due to MSRcosmos’ immense expertise and experience with SAP and Azure.
Being a CMM Level 5 company, the client requested process mocks be completed (see table below + sidebar) to ensure stability of the migration. MSRcosmos began by conducting migration checks, identified potential fault lines, and prioritized a focus on SAML integration; the migration would also comprise provisioning, virtual memory, and high availability and disaster recover.
MSRcosmos successfully completed both Physical Onsite Audit + Remote Implementation by having been granted remote access to critical infrastructure by the client during COVID-19.
